Pet Dental Care DENTAL HEALTH SERVICES

Dental disease is one of the most common issues found in both dogs and cats and it can be far more serious than bad breath! Plaque and tartar form at the gum line due to the presence of bacteria in the mouth. Tartar causes inflammation of the gums (gingivitis), and if untreated can cause pain, infection, tooth loss, and bone loss. Bacteria in the mouth can then cross into the bloodstream and cause secondary liver, heart, lung, and kidney disease!

During your pet’s physical examination we will evaluate his or her teeth and recommend an oral healthcare plan. If a dental cleaning and oral examination are necessary, general anesthesia is required. Under anesthesia, we can fully examine your pet’s mouth and it is at this time that we may discover broken or infected teeth. Sometimes we recommend x-rays of the teeth and their roots to evaluate disease underneath the gums not visible to the naked eye. We are equipped with digital dental radiographs and skilled in simple and complex tooth extractions if needed.
